Every third Sunday, the Palbar Ling Center (PLC) dedicates time, effort, and loving-kindness to serve our homeless brothers and sisters in Los Angeles Skid Row. This ongoing program is not merely an act of charity, but a living practice of the Buddha’s teachings on compassion (karuṇā), generosity (dāna), and interconnectedness.
Once again, it was a long yet deeply meaningful day filled with wholesome and meritorious deeds. We are truly grateful for all the good causes and conditions that come together to make this opportunity possible — from the selfless volunteers to the generous donors, and the blessings of the Triple Gem (the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha). Without these supportive conditions, such acts of service could not unfold.
In Buddhism, giving is not just about offering material things; it is about cultivating a heart of kindness and reducing the suffering of others. When we see a smile on the face of someone receiving food or warm clothing, that joy becomes the greatest gift to us. Their gratitude and relief remind us why we continue this program with sincerity and dedication.
Personally, I have been involved in this homeless outreach since 2010. Over the years, many people have joined the team, and some have moved on, yet the program has never stopped. This continuity itself reflects the Dharma — impermanence in people and circumstances, yet steadfast commitment to compassion remains. We continue because of the collective kindness of everyone involved.
Today we have offered: Muffins, Croissants, Chips, Bananas, Bagels, Sandwiches and Water
Special thanks to Trang and David for preparing many sandwiches and purchasing delicious food items for our street friends.
Beyond food, we also distributed essential winter items, including:
Gloves, Socks, Boxers, Beanies, Jackets, Sweaters
, Blankets, Scarves, Pants
We extend heartfelt gratitude to the Tzu Chi Foundation for donating jackets, sweaters, blankets, and scarves. We also thank all supporters who contributed socks, boxers, beanies, and gloves. These items will help protect our homeless friends from the freezing winter nights. May they all be safe, warm, and free from suffering.

Today, we distributed blankets, scarves, gloves, hats, and other articles of clothing to those in need in Los Angeles. We also distributed muffins, bananas, sandwiches, and chips. It was another heartwarming experience to give to hundreds of people. Acts of generosity and kindness being light to other's lives. It is important to share what we already have to those in need.
